The opening scene to the movie " Scooby Doo and the Monster of Mexico" parallels the scenes that proceeds. Shown in this seen is one of the side characters' son trying to retrieve his beloved dog from the clutches of the antagonistic, The Monster of Mexico. In a sense, the young boy feels as if it is his duty to protect his dog, as if he were the dog's guardian. However, the young boy freezes up in the face of the monster , and needs someone to save him. In the same way that this young boy attempts to save whom he is responsible for,  the young boy's father, Luis, wants to protect him. In the next scene, we watch Luis parallel his sons behavior, by racing to remove his child from the path of danger. Despite this, Luis is no match for the Mexican Monster. Both Luis and his son fail to stand up too the monster, and end up running to safety.

In this scene we see the main characters, Scooby Doo and Shaggy attempting to indulge in a large pizza. However, this is just the surface of the scene. The way the characters are willing to split their food with one another, and even station in the same house is symbolic of their friendship. Scooby Doo, as known to the audience, is a dog. Typically, dogs have the desire to eat anything they come in contact with, as well as are not understanding to the concept of sharing. The way Scooby Doo was willing to wait for the pizza, and share it with his best friend shows how deep the roots of this friendship are.

The scene above demonstrates the concept of Simultaneity, which is where two scenes are cut at different times or areas, to move the plot along. The entire Mystery Incorporated  gang is traveling to Mexico to unravel the mystery behind this mysterious monster. The scene begins with the crew's Mystery Machine coming to a standstill in traffic at the border. The audience feels anxious as they observe the expression's on the young teens faces. We see the scene stall for a few seconds, before transitioning into a different area, where the audience views the Mystery Machine driving at a high speed towards them. The audience should be relieved, as this change in location signals that the Gang is getting to their destination.
